What Does It Mean to Be Rooted in Christ? Colossians 2:7

Roots are mostly hidden. You do not see the work they are doing beneath the surface, yet they determine whether a tree can stand when the weather changes. That picture makes the language of Colossians 2:7 especially powerful.

“Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith…” — Colossians 2:7 (KJV)

What does “rooted in Christ” mean?

To be rooted in Christ is to draw our identity, strength, direction, and hope from Him. Paul’s words point to a faith that is not merely worn on the surface. It grows deeper. It becomes established.

A rooted life is not a life without wind, uncertainty, or difficult seasons. It is a life anchored somewhere stronger than the season itself. Like a tree drawing nourishment through roots no one can see, a Christian life is sustained by an ongoing relationship with Christ—through Scripture, prayer, obedience, gratitude, and trust.

Rooted, then built up

Colossians 2:7 joins two images: being rooted and being built up. One reaches downward; the other rises upward. Together they remind us that visible growth begins with an unseen foundation.

That idea belongs naturally in the JPA Heritage story. ROOTED is not simply a word placed on a garment. It is a reminder of where strength begins: beneath the surface, grounded in Christ.

A quiet reminder you can carry

Faith can be declared boldly, but it can also be carried quietly. A meaningful piece of Christian apparel can become a personal reminder before it ever becomes a conversation with someone else.

That is the thought behind ROOTED: strength, stability, nourishment, and a deep connection to Christ. The closer you look, the more you find.

Rooted in Him. Built to endure.
